Who's Talking

"Our main goal was to raise awareness about our air quality problem and get the community to take ownership of it. Now people are talking about the importance of having clean air… and that's what we wanted to happen!"

About It All Adds Up to Cleaner Air

The Alliance for Clean Air & Transportation

The Alliance for Clean Air and Transportation (ACAT) was a national coalition of public and private organizations working to advance solutions to the nation’s traffic congestion and air pollution challenges. Through its members and partnerships, ACAT distributed messages developed by the It All Adds Up to Cleaner Air initiative and ACAT members to a broad audience nationwide.

Established in collaboration with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), ACAT was the only national organization working to promote these messages.

ACAT in Action

In 2001, ACAT conducted a national rollout of the Commuter Choice Public Education Campaign. In addition, ACAT advised the Ad Council as it developed two commercial-quality television public service announcements (PSAs) on tire inflation and vehicle maintenance. Supported by the Ad Council’s credibility, these PSAs helped state and local partners secure TV placement in markets nationwide at minimal cost.

ACAT Executive Committee

ACAT Executive Committee members committed to supporting the core campaign messages and promoting the initiative to members of their organizations. Committee work allowed members’ voices to be heard in such important areas as commuter choice, vehicle maintenance, on-board diagnostics, health, consumer incentives, land use, “green car” marketing, and alternate modes of transportation. Executive Committee members included the following diverse set of transportation and air quality stakeholders:
