FHWA Environmental Excellence Awards
ENTRIES DUE AUGUST 16, 2004
The Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) Environmental Excellence Awards are given biannually to recognize outstanding projects, processes, and people that solve transportation needs in an environmentally sound and responsible manner. There are a number of award categories including air quality, wetlands, environmental streamlining, cultural and historical resources, and environmental research.
WHO is eligible to enter?
FHWA accepts nominations for any project, process, group, or individual involved in a project or process that has used FHWA funding to make an outstanding contribution to transportation and the environment. Anyone can submit a nomination.
An independent panel of judges with varying backgrounds, disciplines, and expertise will select winning entries.
WHEN are the entries due?
Entries must be submitted electronically by August 16, 2004.

WHERE will the awards be presented?
Award plaques will be presented to the winners in an Earth Day Ceremony on April 22, 2005, in Washington, D.C.
Criteria for the Air Quality Improvement Category
- Quantifies emissions reductions, to the extent possible, of air pollutants and/or greenhouse gases from mobile sources
- Integrates environmental concerns into regional planning and project development
- Builds interagency partnerships and creates proactive public involvement
- Meets environmental challenges creatively
