The Alliance for Clean Air and Transportation (ACAT) is pleased to announce the newest member of the Executive Committee: the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
ACAT is a national coalition of public and private organizations working to raise awareness about the nation's traffic congestion and air pollution challenges. Through its members and partnerships, ACAT distributes messages developed by the It All Adds Up to Cleaner Air initiative and its individual members to a broad audience nationwide.
Established in collaboration with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Federal Transit Administration, ACAT is the only national organization working to promote these messages. DOE's Clean Cities Program is now the newest federal entity to join this cooperative effort. The Clean Cities Program is a national network of organizations devoted to building markets for alternative fuel vehicles, hybrids, and other clean transportation technologies to decrease dependence on imported oil and improve air quality.
"The DOE's decision to join ACAT is significant, and we welcome their involvement in our efforts to promote effective transportation and clean air solutions," said Frank Moretti of The Road Information Program, chairman of ACAT.
"Through 81 Clean Cities Coalitions and 5,000 stakeholders, the It All Adds Up messages will be advocated by an additional network of clean air champions, building new synergies among the Federal programs and leveraging scarce Federal dollars," said Marcy Rood, Deputy Director of the Clean Cities Program.
The FHWA is also pleased to announce that DOE's Fuel Economy Information Program became the latest organization to sponsor the It All Adds Up to Cleaner Air Pooled Fund Program. "The addition of DOE to the pooled fund shows its commitment to providing quality public education materials for the Clean Cities Coordinators," said Michael J. Savonis, Air Quality Team Leader, Office of Natural and Human Environment, FHWA.
