Fall 2004

As summer gives way to fall, it is important to remember that traffic congestion and air quality concerns don’t disappear behind the changing colors of the leaves. As people head back to work and school, fall is a good time to remind drivers about the simple things they can do to help reduce traffic congestion and air pollution.

This fall, It All Adds Up to Cleaner Air is providing a number of materials and online resources built on the theme of alternate modes of transportation.

Did You Know: Carpooling, using transit, walking or bicycling—just one day a week for a year—can save the typical commuter over 1,200 miles on their vehicle and about $455 in total driving costs.

Since the Central Florida Clean Air Team formed and began educating Central Floridians about air quality issues in 1999, air quality has improved within the region.

More than 100 air quality and transportation professionals from across the country use the Exchange to share ideas and information on their public education and outreach activities, get feedback, find out about new tools, and learn what other communities are doing to address air quality and transportation problems.

In addition to providing communities across the country with air quality and transportation marketing and public relations materials, tools, and guidance, the It All Adds Up to Cleaner Air initiative provides links to other resources communities can draw upon when designing their public education programs.
