Seasonal Approach

Here's how it will work. Each season, we'll focus on a subset of the 10 Simple Steps organized around a season-specific theme. The concept is to hook the messages around milestones - in this case, the four seasons of the year - which you can use to make the initiative's messages relevant to both your community and the time of year.

For example, the winter theme is "commuting" and the messages we have selected promote alternatives to commuting with a focus on why alternatives are important in winter and how those alternatives make dealing with winter easier. New winter-themed materials are now available on www.italladdsup.gov in a special new section called Seasonal Theme Program that will be updated each season until all four seasons have been added to the site. New winter-themed materials now available include the following:

  • A "flash" e-mail that combines music, pictures and text to highlight the four winter-theme messages and instructions on how to link to it from your Web site
  • Three print ads that link commuting with the winter theme
  • A radio script that links commuting with the winter theme
  • A press release template that announces a community's participation in the winter theme program
  • An online quiz focused on commuting and instructions for its use on your Web site
  • Suggestions of events/activities for promoting commuting during the winter months

We'll develop similar materials for each of the other three seasons and add them to the Web site as we roll out each season. Future themes include "exercise" in the spring, "refueling" in the summer, and "car care" in the fall.

In the short term, we'll begin offering new technical assistance activities to participating communities to help you promote the Seasonal Theme Program and build on your existing efforts to promote It All Adds Up To Cleaner Air locally. In the longer-term, we hope to engage new national partners you can leverage for your activities that promote solutions to your air quality and traffic congestion problems.

We look forward to working with you to make the It All Adds Up To Cleaner Air initiative an even more significant part of your public education and outreach activities. In the meantime, keep it up, because It All Adds Up To Cleaner Air!
